Located off Queensland coast in Australia, Whitsundays are a collection of 74 islands and are a part of the well known Great Barrier Reef. Over the years, Whitsundays has become the most popular tourist destination in Australia. Most of these islands are now national parks and some of the major attractions range from accessing the coral reefs to enjoy diving and snorkeling to visiting the pristine beaches and much more. The islands are connected by two airports; one at Proserpine town and the other one on Hamilton Island. Each year, Whitsundays is visited by more than half a million tourists.

The most recognized landmark in Whitsundays is the Whitehaven Beach and the 4.5 km stretch consists of brilliant, fine sand and it is the most common image used in Australia’s TV and brochures advertising. You will experience remarkable views across the Hill inlet and any sunny day at the beach is always a spectacular moment. The beach is a perfect place to go swimming and other interesting beaching activities. 
Hamilton Island in Whitsundays is the region’s most populated and developed island and boasts of having its own bank, airport, and post office. Most of the valuable real estate properties in Australia are found here and there are incredibly many accommodation options including standard hotel rooms and rental houses. If you are visiting the island for an event such as a wedding, it is advisable that you book accommodation in an apartment or house as it is highly cost-effective for larger groups. The same owner who owns Hamilton also owns Dent Island, leased from Commonwealth Government. Dent Island is largely uninhabited currently and a golf course is being built on the island which will include villa accommodation and golf clubhouse. 
The largest island in this archipelago is Whitsunday Island and houses the well known Whitehaven Beach. The island is one of the must-visit islands during your Whitsundays trip and there are dozens of boats and yachts that ferry people to the area. The white pure silica sand is the main attraction at Whitehaven beach and there are many theories existing about this sand. While visiting Whitehaven, make sure you carry your sunglasses along as you will surely need them. 
Now, the beach has been turned into a national park and receives a significant number of visitors on a daily basis. Other notable islands at the Whitsundays include the Hook Island, Hyman Island, Daydream Island, Long Island, South Molle Island, and Lindeman Island. Various events are also held at the Whitsundays such as the popular Outrigger Cup, the Hamilton Island Race Week, and numerous sporting events.
