Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte, sitting in the southwest part of North Carolina, is the largest city of the state. Packed with multitude of attractions, ranging from culture, history, and urban art to high-energy outdoor pursuits and active recreation, there are endless reasons to visit and spend the holiday in this bustling region. With the promise of delightful discovery and memorable experience, it’s a must to make Charlotte a part of your North Carolina trip.

Rich history and interesting culture are best defined by Charlotte’s chain of museums, galleries and historical buildings which are evenly-scattered all throughout the city. If you have a limited time but still wish to learn the city’s history, head near the Uptown where most of these relevant attractions are found. Charlotte Museum of History no doubt tops the list, where enthusiastic guides in costumes make the tour more engaging. A display of post-Civil War memorabilia is found in the Levine Museum, and the interactive feature allows visitors to fully immerse on the important events of the city’s past.

Adding to Charlotte’s remarkable beauty and pleasant greenery are its nature and city parks. One of Charlotte’s important nature parks is McDowell Nature Center and Preserve, a spectacular spot known for its series of magnificent landscapes that has become a favorite venue for hiking, bird-watching, and other nature-trips. Animal exhibits, butterfly sanctuary and bird-feeding activities are some of the highlights of this 136-acre lakeside park. If you are visiting during spring and summer months, better see McGill Rose Garden and there you will witness almost 500 rosebushes in its glorious beauty. The loveliness of Jetton Park, Lake Norman, RibbonWalk Nature Preserve, and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens are hard to resist as well.

If you are with your family, make sure that your kids have their own bout of adventure as well. Carowinds, the “Thrill Capital of the Southeast,” tops the list of must-visit destination for children. Thrilling rides such as roller coasters and water slides, as well as dinosaur exhibits and fun shows will surely delight them, easily making this 398-acre amusement park one of their favorite destinations.

Discovery Place Kids, on the other hand, permits children to have an up-close encounter with science and technology in a casual and fun setting. While in the city, let them learn the wonders of the deep sea through Sea Life Charlotte-Concord, where seahorse, sharks, octopus, jelly fish, and hundreds more of sea creatures are “within reach.”  Charlotte has a full range of activities for young explorers, making the city a child-friendly destination.

From sun up to sun down, whatever the season is, there are activities to do, attractions to see, and treasures to discover in the marvelous city of Charlotte. With such beauty and wonder, you surely will have a grand time in your Charlotte getaway.
