There are relevant factors why Baton Rouge is famous all over the globe: this bustling capital of the US state Louisiana has a unique location near the majestic Mississippi River and is the home of the world-renowned Louisiana State University. But those who have visited and discovered Baton Rouge will vouch that this energetic city is more than that. This region is a haven for history enthusiasts and a venue for family-oriented happenings, where the climate is perfect for thrilling adventures and the locals are friendly. With all these present, there is no doubt why Baton Rouge is a favorite tourist spot in the USA.


In the Downtown, one of the interesting sights to visit is the Old Louisiana State Capitol. Open to the public, this important building made it to the prestigious list of National Register of Historic Places and is considered as the city’s most prominent landmark. Bearing an attractive architecture and a captivating façade, the building makes a perfect backdrop in photographs. Museums are in every corner of Baton Rouge, giving the visitors the chance to know the past of the city. Included in its string of museums is the Louisiana State Museum, a two-floor museum that has exhibits related to culture and history. Also included are the African-American Museum, Louisiana Art and Science Museum, and the LSU Rural Life Museum.


Because the city encourages the family to travel together, Baton Rouge makes sure that there are attractions that cater to the children’s interest. Popular among the young ones is the Blue Bayou Water Park, an 80-acre water and amusement park known for its lengthy water slides, challenging roller coasters, towering Ferris wheel and awesome water pools. There’s also the Baton Rouge Zoo where children can have the opportune time to pet and be close to the animals they only see in television and books. USS Kidd is also an interesting spot to be, as this place is all about WWII and everything related to military activities.


Shopping will never be out when exploring a new city, and in Baton Rouge, the shopping areas are definitely not to be missed. The largest shopping center of the city, Mall of Louisiana, is sitting in Baton Rouge’s south part and houses nice collections of locals and international brands. Along the Jefferson Highway, an upscale open-air type shopping hub simply called the Towne Center is also a favorite destination for retail therapy.  In the corner of Perkins Road, there is the Perkins Rowe that has a line-up of chic retail shops, fashionable restaurants, and entertainment centers.


Baton Rouge promises a dining experience like no other, and with an array of restaurants present in the city, there is a dish that will satisfy every discriminating foodie. For excellent seafood and Cajun dishes, there’s Parrain’s Seafood Restaurant,  The Chimes Restaurant & Tap Room, Sammy’s Grill and Louisiana Lagniappe Restaurant. For steak and meat lovers, there’s Ruth’s Chris Steak House; and for particular dishes and international cuisine, there’s Texas de Brazil, Juban’s Restaurant, and Nino’s Italian Restaurant to name a few.
