Oklahoma, one of the states in the Great Plains region, is known to be a beautiful and picturesque place ideal to explore and visit. The state has nine major cities, all with distinct assets to be proud of. For instance, Oklahoma City is famous for being the state capital, Edmond City is known to be an affluent suburb, Norman is the proud home of University of Oklahoma, Shawnee is where Brad Pitt was born, so on and so forth. Mother Nature has been good to Oklahoma, as it has showered it with awe-inspiring natural scenery and eco-regions. There is so much to witness, experience and do in Oklahoma, making it one of the most-visited states in the United States.
Travelers getting in by plane have the option to enter Oklahoma via Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City or Tulsa International Airport in Tulsa. Visitors coming from nearby destinations usually enter through domestic flights in Ponca City and Lawton City. The roads in Oklahoma are in excellent condition and the connections to different cities make the travel fast and efficient. Vacationers will never have a hard time finding a temporary home for the holidays, as Oklahoma offers a full range of tourist-friendly accommodations, from upscale boutique hotels to decent and affordable inns.
The great outdoors make Oklahoma a favorite spot of adventure seekers and nature lovers. Pine woods, lakes, mountains, grasslands and rolling hills are evident in different parts of the state. Due to this, to see the state’s natural wonders tops the itinerary. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is an absolute gem composed of stunning lakes and scenic trails. When it comes to state parks with nature-inspired setting, Oklahoma has a lot, including Beavers Bend & Hochatown State Park where fragrant pine forest, Broken Bow Lake and Mountain Fork River are nestled; and Natural Falls State Park, home of the breath-taking 77-foot waterfalls. For hikers, nothing beats Black Mesa, as it gives out a panoramic view of the region. Within the premises is Black Mesa State Park and Nature Preserve which holds most of the Oklahoma’s amazing wildlife. For water-adventure enthusiasts, Grand Lake of the Cherokees and the Glover River are some of the best choices.
Being a diverse state, Oklahoma’s attractions go beyond its natural assets. Here, the historic districts and commercial areas are definitely worth exploring as well. Among the many relevant historical structures, it is an absolute must to see OKC National Memorial as this embodies the strength and bravery of the people of Oklahoma.
There are numerous museums to visit, such as the Oklahoma History Center, Sam Noble Natural History Museum and National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to name a few. For a different kind of unwinding and relaxing, the amusement rides in Frontier City and the pool slides of White Water Bay are excellent options. If there is time to spare, catching a concert in the Civic Center Music Hall or watching a game in The Brick is definitely worth it. Hopping from one winery to another is also an enjoyable activity when in Oklahoma.
