Picton, New Zealand

The town of Picton is located in South Island at the top in New Zealand. Ferries at Cook Strait Interisland have Picton as their southern port and people heading on to Marlborough use this town as their gateway. This place is recognized as one of the most pleasant places in New Zealand where you can spend some few great days. Picton offers great convenience for anyone wanting to explore the beautiful and highly popular Marlborough Sounds. Some of the most exciting activities to engage in at Picton include SCUBA diving to Mikhail Lermontov which is a wreck of Soviet cruise passage ship, fishing, sailing, hiking and biking. 
When travelling to Picton by boat, you can board a ferry at Wellington and take the nearly three hour journey to the town. There are frequent flights provided between Picton and Wellington at the Picton airport. There are no local bus services in Picton and you should know how you are going to tour the place when visiting the town. Fortunately, you can easily explore the town center on foot. There are power boats and private yachts at Waikawa Bay and you can hire one here. Taxi services are also available even though they can be more expensive than other travel means. Using a boat is the most preferred way of exploring Queen Charlotte Sound.
There are many interesting things you can do in Picton such as taking a walk to Snout. This peninsula is found between Waikawa Bay and Picton and comprises of a mixture of exotic and native bush. The tracks available here will take you like three hours starting on the foot of hill. There is a map available at Marlborough District Council and you can obtain one from the local tourist information centre. The Marlborough Sounds Adventure Company also organizes professional tours in Picton including mountain biking, walking to Queen Charlotte Walkway and kayaking. You can as well visit the Kiwi Mini Golf club and Picton Golf Club for some golfing courses as well. 
Shopping in Picton is also an activity worthy engaging in and a good way to spend your free time while in the town.
