Airlie Beach, Australia

The town of Airlie Beach is located in Queensland. With a population of about 25, 000 people the town has over the years developed to become a hot tourist destination catering for all kinds of tourists and backpackers. A couple of years ago, Airlie Beach was well known as a haven for backpacking but Australians have of late discovered that it is a little treasure that has seen it experience increased commercialization of late. The beach has plenty of good quality but relatively cheap accommodation. Most of the puns and backpacker resorts are located on the Airlie Beach. Some suburbs of Airlie Beach have become very popular such as Shute Harbor and Jubilee Pocket where the ferries going to Whitsundays Islands usually depart from.
The easiest option of traveling to Airlie Beach is flying to Whitsunday Coast Airport also known as the Proserpine Airport and served by several airlines such as Jetstar and Virgin Australia. Hamilton Island airport is also located just off the Airlie Beach and visitors should do their research to ascertain which of these islands is the least expensive. Getting around Airlie Beach is easy especially because the airport terminal is conveniently served by several buses. Taxis are also a common way of touring around Airlie Beach even though this can be quite expensive but very convenient on the other hand.
As you walk along the Shute Harbor Rd from the town center, you will be amazed to see the beautiful and stunning views of both the bay and the harbor. Despite the area having the name ‘beach’, this is not the best place to go for beaching. The few beaches found along the Shute Harbour Road are pretty and small and the fact that there are so many jellyfish makes them not suitable for swimming. If you must swim in these waters, you should be in a stinger suit that is made using a rash material on the top.
However, as a way of making up for this, the man-made lagoon at Airlie Beach makes the place more fantastic. There is a beautiful landscape of grass and bridge lying on the surrounding. Lifeguards watch it day and night as swimming is allowed at any time. On Saturdays, a charming market at the waterfront makes the area even livelier and tourists can buy souvenirs and different kinds of locally produced foodstuffs.
Airlie Beach also has several transfers, day trips and cruises to the Outer Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands. Restaurants in Airlie Beach are many and varied and include the most expensive and budget ones. Sleeping options in Airlie Beach are many and varied and some of the best ones include Nomads Airlie Beach Backpackers hostel, Beaches Backpackers, the Magnum’s Hostel and Backpackers by the bay among others. Most of these hotels have reliable internet access even though it is quite expensive. After you are done with your vacation at Airlie Beach, you can opt to go to the Cedar Creek Falls for a trip on your way out.
